MEET THE PASTOR

Bishop Steve L. Carlton Sr., the son of the late Charlie and Roberta Carlton, was born in Lenoir, NC. After high school he attended the North Carolina School of Broadcasting in Charlotte, NC, and later became the first Black DJ in the history of Lenoir on Station WJRI 1310.

After a short span there, Bishop Carlton was called into the ministry and licensed to preach in November 1975 at Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Kimmie P. Davis. He later moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where he continued to be mentored by Dr. Joseph R. Samuel at St. Stephen's Baptist Church. There he met and married the Late Cynthia D. Baker, and became the father of two children, Steve Jr. and Tiffany. After the untimely passing of his wife of 35 years, Bishop Carlton married the incredible Linda Wells of Youngstown, Ohio in 2014.

With a desire and ambition to study God's Word, Bishop Carlton attended Winston Salem Bible College and received an Associate Degree in Theology. He then transferred to Shaw University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and later earning his Master of Divinity. He is continuing his education at Drew University in pursuit of his doctorate.

Bishop Carlton pastored the New Smith Grove Church in Lexington, NC for 10 years before receiving the call to Second Calvary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, where he pastored for seven years — until God birthed in him the vision for what is now No Walls Ministry.
